File Types

The following file types are allowed.

Documents: txt rtf doc docx ppt pptx xls xlsx pdf

Image: png gif jpg jpeg

Remote Video: YouTube, Vimeo

Image Quality & Width

We recommend using images that are at least 1600 × 800 pixels for the best quality and the ability to crop if needed. Images smaller than that may appear blurry or pixelated when they stretch to fill containers, such as banners.

Images need to be at least 800 pixels wide to fill page width (up to sidebars) on pages.

Image Aspect Ratios

The aspect ratio of an image is the proportional relationship of the width to the height. The following standard size is recommended, as it will fit well both on pages and displayed as tiles:

Other ratios can be used as well, such as 2:1 (1000 × 500), 4:3 (such as 800 × 600), or 8:5 (such as 1280 × 800). However, it is recommended that the editorial board choose a single size and be consistent across the site.
